Is there any product that will not discolor plastic or leave any visible residue on plastic or emblems on a black vehicle? I'm trying to find a product I can use without having to mask off the trim etc before waxing? I currently use Mother's, and unless I mask off the trim, I inevitably touch a plastic trim piece someplace and leave a white stain that is extremely difficult to restore.

Maybe I'm not being careful enough, but I can't seem to avoid touching a plastic trim piece without masking off trim.

Zaino does not stain trim. I've slopped in on plastic textured rub strips to gauge this for myself and it wipes right off.

Some people say Klasse All In One doesn't stain trim but its happened to me. Not bad but it did leave a light residue. I seem to be in the minority though as many others say it doesn't stain.

Blackfire is yet another that will supposedly not stain. Find it at properautocare.com.

There are a few other niche products sold by people who do business at local car shows and out of their basements whose products allegedly will not stain trim.

Most of the stuff sold in retail stores will stain because their products contain fillers which leave a white residue in trim. You will not find the high quality, boutique products in stores, only online.

Here's a little detailers trick: Apply your favorite tire dressing to the trim prior to waxing. The dressing will protect the trim from staining and will make it look good in the process. Use a small damp sponge to apply the dressing. Shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes to treat the trim.

A high grade carnauba should be fine. I have tried Zymol, Lusso Oro, Pinnacle and others in the GOOD paste wax lines. Most liquid waxes stain because they have an abrasive (clay or other material) or they have a solvent in there used to flash that may discolor. A good general purpose cleaner should remove white residue. If you need a website to get good wax shoot me a PM and no I don't market wax.

I've been using stuff made by Clearkote with great results. It doesn't stain trim at all. I use two products, the Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze and the Carnauba Moose Wax on my black Grand Prix. If you do a Google search, you'll turn up some vendors. Shop around for the best price and shipping.

I've used Zymol paste wax (not the polish sold in discount stores) for years and it does not stain the black trim. I've purchased the wax from Emmons Coachworks...I'm almost certain you can order on-line
