Mini-Ductor Venom HP

For the record, I live in CA and rarely see rusty cars. So, I’m pretty spoiled (and ignorant) in that regard.

I watched the above video on the Mini-Ductor and am somewhat intrigued. I assume it does not replace a proper torch, but can it be useful to have one around for the rare situation that I encounter rusty fasteners?

Or does this fall under the category of snake oil?

I also don't encounter a lot of rust but recently got one of the Amazon knock-offs.

I'm amazed at how quickly it heats, BUT I feel like it would be better suited on nuts. I mean it roasts whatever it encircles but I'm skeptical of sending significant heat "down" the length of a bolt. Maybe. There are also a ton of variables I'd think like what exactly the offending fastener is threaded in to.

I consider it a useful tool in the arsenal but not a miracle. Hopefully those in rusty areas have more insight.

Allegedly my knock-off uses readily available big name coils so if you're not wanting to spend a lot, er as much (for as infrequently as I'll use it I couldn't justify mini-ductor prices):

I have it and you are correct it is not a replacement for a torch but it is very useful in many situations where you would not want an open flame eg fuel tank straps, around anything rubber or plastic. It does work and works well but I don't know how much benefit it would have for guys in mild rust free climates.

living in MN everything is rusty, a buddy of mine is a mechanic and has the original mini-ductor. That thing has been a life saver on all kinds of things, really good a loosening up exhaust manifold nuts so we don't break them all off and spend the day playing welder getting the studs out.

Do you have much experience with bolts?

I have one and I’ve even used it to heat rods to bend them. Very nice tool but it won’t entirely replace a torch. I like using it to minimize the chances of starting something on fire. You have much more control over what you heat.

Ive had an inductive heater for 15 years. Does not replace a torch but complements it nicely
