Miles vs hours question

[Santo Fontana]

Im looking at a gm van with the 6.2l diesel.

It has 160k miles and 8k hours.

Im not really familiar with hour readings. Do these figures match up or was this van idled forever?

with those readings the average speed for the run time is 20 mph.seems like alot of city driving.

Ihave a diesel pickup truck and I am averaging better than 40 mph. I live in the country and do a lot of open road driving, though.

Santo, realize that the 20 mph average speed could represent lots of slow speed city driving OR principally highway miles coupled with lots of idling time. In other words a higher actual average driving speed could have been mascacred by lots and lots of idling time.
