Couldn’t edit this in time but it’s a Mighty brand oil filter. Can’t decipher date code. Made in Mexico also.

Yeah, seam area especially. Louvers look like hammered dog

Bypass looks like a Purolator (spiral spring), seam area looks like a Purolator too!

You can see the louvers "through" the elements infolds. This filter likely wasn't filtering at all.

Junk construction like this is why I'll never buy "jobbers' filters" or into extended drains. Even if I get a succession of bad filters, a 5K OCI cleans my oil (ha-ha).

Looks like reflections of light off the oily pleats to me.

Yeah, louvers aren't that great ... I'd pass on those after a visual inspection. They can do better than that without much effort.

I'm with you, Adam, I would stay far, far away from anything that looked like that! Bet the bypass got a good workout, though!
