I guess they're not worried about the Adblockers out there, if they get to mine data from emails, address books, and names.
It seems that MS is always a couple steps behind in the 'net services arena. Then when they release a product that's decent (Windows Live for example) it's mired in internal old-school style product releases. Live v2 will be a long time to come,sadly.
Yahoo hasn't accepted the offer yet!

I was worried because I've used Yahoo Mail since 1994... In my opinion Yahoo mail is the best e-mail service out there. Yes, I pay the $20/yearly fee to get rid of the blasted adds. I also have a flickr account (pro).

I don't think one company should be in charge of the world's information so Google isn't on my most favorite list but I really like their e-mail, document system, and search engine.

Hotmail doesn't suck so bad anymore. It really doesn't. In fact, the new Windows Live offerings are VERY nice indeed! They're just sooooo late to market with them.
That's my beef with MS...they're late to market on nearly everything internet focused. By swallowing Yahoo, they'll just make Yahoo even later to market.
Although the MSN front-end could easily be axed for Yahoo's front-end services, it makes sense to keep the Live and make it better alongside Yahoo. The think-tanks will consider that to be redundant, but it makes sense. Like EMC bought VMWare and left VMWare well alone, MS would be wise to do the same.

Starting around last week, my hotmail spam dropped to near zero. Whatever they did works very well. Both yahoo and hotmail use to much bandwidth, though. Gmail is the worst for taking forever to load, which is why I don't use it.
I use Gmail in Thunderbird, and it works great.
Gotta love GOOGLE's offer to "help" Yahoo fight Microsoft's charms.........
