I have a laptop on which I'm running Microsoft Streets & Trips 2010. I'll be taking the family on a 1500 mile round-trip road trip in about a month. I was thinking of getting a USB GPS locator/receiver so that I can use the laptop with Streets & Trips as my navigation system. I've looked on eBay and see a lot of listings for Streets & Trips with the GPS locator/receiver. Does anyone know if the locator/receiver is tied to the specific version of Streets & Trips that it came with, or if I pick one up with an older version of Streets & Trips, will I be able to use it with the 2010 version that I already have installed?

I don't know for sure, but I don't the that gps receivers have changed recently nor is the software that different either. Can you tell if the transponder looks different? Maybe go to the S & M website and ask them.

I am by no means an authority on Microsoft S&T but I would think that a previous version receiver would work with the new software as long as you're not talking about an ancient (more than 6 years old) piece of hardware

Can't you hook any handheld GPS with a serial or USB interface to this software? GPS is GPS.

OP Update: I picked up a copy of Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007 on eBay for $13.50. The locator / receiver works just fine with Streets & Trips 2010.
