This is the first MG201-1 for me. All the others I have are the 101-7
Notice a two piece base plate. Has a thin cover over it...
Not sure this is my favorite.......
All the other MG's have been great.

The Fram TG 3614 for this Ford weighs 7.8 ounces
The MG above weighs 12.3 ounces. Both are the same height and width.

Yes I was in on that thread- thanks.
I have cut open several and everything looked great after 10k in all examples.
This is for a new C Max Hybrid.
They have another deal going if you're a previous buyer- a free air or fuel filter.....
I always buy these at the 50% price. Very reasonable.

I recently bought two MGs, a 101-1 and a 101-7. They are built like tanks but I can't say I'm too impressed with the louvers inside. I'm not anti-louver like some here are but many of the holes don't look like they are open at all. They don't inspire a lot of confidence. I ended up using a Bosch Long Life during last night's oil change instead.

Funny you should mention that. For conversation only the other day I picked up one of my 101-7 and I looked at it and I said those lovers are closed. Of course the light was not so bright and when I put a flashlight light to it they were fine. I've been in many but I guess without great lighting they can appear closed. That said I'm not suggesting yours weren't.

On the 201-1 the louvers per square inch is amazing. On the filters with holes they are spread
much further apart. So that is not an issue here.

It is true that the 201-1 louvers are indeed a good bit bigger than the 101-7 but they are still all opened

I have a new MG101-1 here. I have cut one open before and shown pictures. The louvers are great on the ones I had. The problem is the ADBV doesn't function. No space for it to open. In order for oil to flow it has to push up the whole element onto the large coil spring. When that happens, and it will happen, oil bypasses down the center tube as the ADBV comes off it's seat. Oil will still be filtered some as there is pressure on the medias, but it is a completely defective design. Unless they changed it and someone can show this particular version works properly. I am very happy I didn't put it on my car.

I just read some of your posts now. You have had your share of oil filter woes for sure.

The messenger isn't the problem, the filter is.
Normal filter, Bosch D+:

If anyone can explain how the middle filter works with no space for the ADBV to move into, besides the element moving up and breaking the adbv seal, please do.
The MG needs a longer neck on the baseplate where the adbv sits. This is one hazard of dealing with small company :engineering.:

^^^ Wonder if MG has changed the design and now uses a longer neck to give the ADBV room to move. Looks like amateur filter designers at work.

MG101-1 louvers, look great:

MG101-1 concave baseplate (inside filter), combined with short neck on baseplate = closed adbv. The neck makes the adbv seal to the baseplate. When the engine runs the whole element has to push up to allow oil in. When that happens the seal breaks and oil bypasses. On another uncut MG101-1 I tried to push in on the adbv and it wouldn't move just as described unless a lot of pressure to overcome the coil spring. I emailed the company with my picture, no response. They seem to have different designs for different models. If not for this I would have been using them, especially on the sale price.

I would email them this and ask for an explanation.

My car is dead quiet but my filter is a 300-3 set for an in block bypass.

Nice pictures
To be fair I don't have any 101-1's or any applications that fit these. So I have absolutely no experience
with them.
My post to you was not an attack. I read several of your posts and I think I read you use Ultras mostly which I do as well. A few Mobil 1's as well. Thanks

How are you coming up with that?

Well his post said he emailed them and no response.
They always respond to me very quickly but I never presented to them an issue like this.
