Safe bet is to stick with the Selects, the plain Microgards seem to have several iterations from multiple manufacturers.
I would, except that the engine my wife's car specifically calls for a filter without the ADBV and it's got about 9 more years left on the factory warranty. Today I found the OE Mazda filters on Amazon for just over $11, made in Japan by Toyo Roki. I was just hoping for a cheaper alternative if those are not available.

Those Tokyo Roki Japan are nice! The Microgard Select is a great alternative as well we the Carquest Premium.

I am 85% sure that if you go to the parts counter at your local Mazda dealer (if you have one), it'll be close or even below that number.

and/or lots of IRL Mazda dealers have their own websites (IIRC and/below $11), check out mazdaswag dot com a real Mazda dealer.
