i want to polish a couple of vehicles . i have a DA polisher . in the past i have used foam pads , and they seem to work well . i am using HD speed . with the foam , i sometimes need to go over the area twice to get the desired outcome.

i have read with micofiber , they cut better than foam . are microfiber pads better than foam these days ?

The person using it matters more .. but I would say yes
esp. for cutting microfiber is more aggressive.

Microfiber is generally more aggressive than Foam, but will leave a worse finish on softer paints due to the fibers. A minor amount of DA haze (micro marring) is common.

Having details a ton of cars trucks over the years I prefer foam pads for me .

As stated microfiber may cut better but you may not like the end result as much .

You can try slower arm speed or a different grade of foam pad and see if you gte improvement.

As always could be the paint you are working, on some correct easier than others .

Cut from most to least:

Wool > Microfiber > Foam

Finish is also in the same inverse direction.

Yes microfiber will cut more and take scratches out faster but are for flat surfaces without Body Lines. It is easier to wear the paint down on a sharp body line or what I have found is the pad comes unglued from its backing plate whenever they rub over Body Lines regularly.

Foam and a good light buffing compound will do just fine. Take your time and use minimal pressure.

Lake Country orange pads have been my go-to for 20 years. I use with polish or compound depending on what I'm trying to resolve. Never an issue, always great results.
