Had to remove roof sealant off a 27 foot aluminum enclosed gooseneck trailer today. About seventy feet of roof sealant to be removed, not counting the vents.

Started out with acetone, but ran out. Acetone was working good, but not great. Went to Home Depot and picked up a gallon of Goo off professional strength, and a gallon of acetone.

Upon returning went straight for the Goo off, hoping it was an answer to reducing the labor on this job, at high noon, full sun, at 4500 feet altitude.

Goo off had very poor results. Switched to the acetone and good back to slowly but steadily getting the old sealant off.

My guess, Goo Off is a household use/ light duty/ safer chemical, than straight acetone. But Goo Off professional strength might not be a good match for tougher jobs.

In the sun. I'd rather just GOOF off.

Wait until no, low sun.

What EXACTLY is the roof sealant and I will give you a better solvent idea.
I have zero idea what the previous owner used as a roof sealant.

Finished removing all the sealant. Pretty hot day.

I will be using EternaBond RoofSeal tape for the edges, and Zillow RV Flex Repair Caulking Lap Sealant around the vents.

Amazon or EBay had a great price on a four pack of Zillow. I now see the sealant expires this fall, guessing it might be aged stuff at the end of its dispensary life.

Supplemental follow up.

Early morning application of the sealer.

There is a reason for the expiration date in the sealer. Sealer is months from expiring. Sealer chemicals separated inside the tube. One can see in the below pictures the result of the separated ingredients.

Nothing I can do at this point. Just hope the sealer sets and holds. The sealer was moderately discounted on Amazon, I am guessing the reasons was the sealer was at the very end of its shelf life.

This is one disadvantage using Amazon instead of a local retailer, no way to inspect the expiration date, or return and exchange for good product.

Nite the job looks sloppy. The chemical separation, along with its self leveling properties, made an orderly application unfeasable.
