Mich. Energy MXV4 belt separation! 205/55 R16 91H

Noticed quite a bit of through-the-seat vibration last weekend on a road trip peaking at 70mph. Today I spun both rear wheels and the pass. side has a pronounced dip in the middle with a bump towards the outer edge. Manuf. date: 0806

Also noticed a 3" x 3" lump of tar on the inside of the drvr-side wheel ..towards the opposite wheel. So I pulled both and gave them a good scrub. The pass. side was lump-free.

I usually buy tires at DT, but have found shopping around to be beneficial as they don't usually have the lowest price.

Good site for DT coupons? Tire price comparisons? Shop-bots?

It doesn't hurt to ask DT if they'd price match; I bet they'd even do the shopping for you. They do have a guarantee for prices, and their overall service is pretty tough to beat in my opinion.

And with those tires being the 8th week of 2006, I don't believe Michelin warranties their tires once they hit six years from the born-on date (although I'm not sure when they started implementing this), otherwise you may have a case of warranty support for the belt separation.
 
I find most get pretty hard and start to dry rot in the 6Th year if you live where the season temps vary widely. I've had them crack in the 5th year and I've had them last 7 years.

They have honored the lower price I found, but I had to do the research. I didn't expect they would do that, but now-a-days...who knows?

I didn't realize they were that old, still plenty of tread left. No sidewall cracks, but I did notice some starting between the treads.

Here in central Tx, we only have two seasons: Summer & January...

+1 I doubt you will get any help with warranty.
 
Called DT. Asked how long they warranted Michelins with a possible belt separation. He wouldn't give me an answer over the phone. He wants me to come in. Turns out they don't have my tires in stock either.

Now that the control arms have been replaced, I can deal with the tires.

No DT discount codes? I thought everyone had them these days...

Mileage Warranties & Limited Warranty



All Michelin tires4 (both Replacement & Original Equipment) come with a limited warranty for treadwear, as well as a limited warranty which covers defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the original usable tread, or for 6 years from date of purchase, whichever occurs first. Sarcasim aside, your point is??? If you don't intend to contribute anything of value, stay off my post. Further, I didn't ask for warranty info., I originally asked for DT coupons and price comparisons. Obviously, you failed to notice that....
 
Update: Despite the answers about my tires being 6 yrs. old and they're out of warranty, DT not only warranted the tire due to an obvious seperation, but due to the amount of tread left, credited $75 towards the price of a new Michelin Primacy MXM4 to match those already on the front.

They didn't have it in stock, so they put on a new inexpensive tire for me to drive on while the new tire was on order. Came in within a couple of days.

I shopped around a bit to see how their price compared and the lowest I found was just $3 less. Not worth messing with.

This is why I've bought tires from them and only them for 20+ years.
