I have a Santa Fe classic dehumidifier in my basement. It is time to replace the 11 MERV, 16x20x2" filter...

I can get one from the manufacturer, but there are few options... But there are LOTS of 1" thick on places like Amazon.

So, if cheaper, would it make sense to stack a low MERV filter with a higher one? Putting filters in series would increase pressure drop, but less restrictive filter in series would make less of a difference perhaps.

Any bad heartburn with putting two 1" filters in series?

What would I be giving up with a 1", 11 MERV filter versus a 2" version also rated at 11? I assume that the added depth gives more surfac area so there is more holding capacity for the same or less pressure drop. That being the case, is ther a rule of thumb for replacement frequency given pleat depth and CFM rating?

Thanks!
