MERIT exhaust front pipe review

My 1991 Accord had a leaking flex pipe. Last week I received a MERIT exhaust part #38692 front pipe from RockAuto to replace the whole front section. RockAuto's catalog had no photos of this part, nor did Merit's site, so if anyone is considering buying similar parts you might like to know what they are. The part I received had the same Part #38692 but said GOERLICH'S EXHAUST.

This front pipe is assembled from multiple little pieces of pipe. The welding is sloppy but I can live with that if it holds up. Most if it looks like 2" pipe as the OE, but where this front pipe has the 2 into 1 they shrunk the two pipes down to about 1.25" each!! The 4-2-1 of the F22A6 is supposed to improve flow compared to the 4 into 1 on the F22A1 in the LX and DX.

The actual 'Y' piece looks like someone took a conical piece of metal and squeezed it down with a vise. Cheap, crude, and looks like it has terrible exhaust flow. Upon driving it has a buzz over 3k rpm that the OE pipe didn't have.

The price was much cheaper than a new OE pipe from Honda, but buyers beware. It would have been better to cut out the old flex pipe and weld a new one on the original pipe. The OE pipe has smooth flow lines, no constrictions, and top notch welds.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll just stick to buying parts over-the-counter, where I can get a good look at them before handing over the money.

And my heater core from Delco whines at high rpm. Service book says object in the core for the symptom. Original was an Harrison but I couldn't able to find it and thought Delco should close to the original for a GM. However it has more pleats (denser comb) and heats up even quicker, looks nice at first but on uphills you may need to readust to a cooler setting.

As far as I can find original parts for me. Once again, thanks for the heads-up.
