I have a 2000 Mercury Villiger. Some of the spark plugs are very hard to get to. I have two questions, first question; two of the plugs came out without the spark plug gasket. How do I got about getting the gasket out? Should I used a screw driver to pry it loose? Second question; one of the spark plugs has a stripped nut and I need a 12 inch extension inorder to reach the plug. Is there a way to get this plug out? The reason why it stripped is because the spark plug is rusted from the previous owner detailing the engine and the water sat in the spark plug area.

spray some penetrating oil (i like pb blaster -- see the forum on this board) down in the hole. see if a metric socket fits the striped plug. you might try another kind of socket, one that grabs on the flats instead of the corners.

if the gaskets are stuck in place, spray with penetrating oil as well and use a little automotive pick to pull them out. try not to spray too much down into the open cylinder. first though, try putting the plug back in and see if this breaks the gasket free.
