Mercruiser Oil Filters

I stopped through the local Walmart today for some necessities, and did the tour through the auto section.
I have a boat with a Mercruiser engine (GM 350 block). I have purchased Mercruiser oil filters at Walmart before, and with winter depression setting in, I went to look at the Mercruiser lubes/filters.

Upon inspection, I realized the Mercruiser filter is now an ecore. A $9 ecore nonetheless. I have used the OEM filter many times, and normally for an extra buck or two to skip warranty worries why not. But an ecore - no way.

Could this just be the Walmart stock, or do you think all Mercruiser oil filters are now Ecore design for this engine?

If the filter is actually labeled "Mercruiser", then it sounds like they went to the ecore design. Time to find a new brand.

Probably like most corporations it is the bottom line,profit at any cost etc. If the filter fails Mercruiser should pay for the repair!!! The name on the filter to skip warranty worries why not?

Merc filters are made by Champion Labs. Nothing special about them other than the brand name printed on the filter.

Any quality auto filter should work fine.
