Mercon Power Steering Fluid

My '01 Taurus specified Mercon for the PS fluid and had no problems with Mercon V.
I have always heard that Mercon V quiets down the whiney Ford pumps a bit.

Ran out of M1 when I was doing the PS fluid in my Mustang. Finished topping up with Mercon V. 10,000 miles later and its still quiet and smooth.
This has been debated to death, and dozens of those debates are available to read here on BITOG. Back when your truck was made, Ford said NOT to use Mercon V in the power steering, transfer case, or manual trans. They still wanted you to used Mercon fluid in power steering, transfer cases, and the Ranger's manual transmission. Ford stopped selling Mercon. They started saying Mercon V was OK. Supposedly they changed the formula. Personally I haven't had trouble with Ford power steering systems anyway. Some people say NOT to change the fluid if there's no problem with the system (including Click and Clack).
Interestingly, Ford did this same thing when Mercon came out. There are cars that take Mercon in the trans but Type F transmission fluid in the PS.

Arent click and clack dead?
Or at the very least no longer recording new shows its all re runs now?

Mercon V is fine. Also, I have used a variety of other PSFs in Fords such as ATF+4 and Dexron VI with no problems.
