I bought a 2004 C240 with 12,000 miles on it in 2005. To make a long story short, that will be my first and last MB.

If I ever buy another performance car, it will likely be a Cadillac with the stop/start "technology" disabled.

Curious, what will a technician with 10 yrs experience typically earn per year at an indyshop? It has been a long time, but I remember seeing the financials of a guy who owned a Meinke shop in a busy part of town. He had been in business for almost 15 yrs and was earning about $45k/yr back in 2000. That's as an owner.


Around $60,000 to $70,000 for a good seasoned tech, I negotiate a higher flat rate in exchange for NO guaranteed salary & have had many years that broke $100,000. Where some techs like more guaranteed base salary & get screwed on their flat rate.
Sure.....I've had some $20 paychecks when the shop was absolutely dead, All those $2,000-$3,000 paychecks make up for it.

The money is there for those that are sharp & want to earn, Can't see being a Plumber or Electrician being less physically demanding? And I don't let this job stress me mentally.

It seems being a mechanic pays cr@p. A young man starting out should bypass that career...get into IT or another tech that pays real $ starting at $100k.
