Own a 2005 w211 e320 CDI with ~176k miles.
I just replaced the turbo actuator a few weeks ago. Had to remove the turbo to do the job. Once I installed the turbo back into place an oil leak sprung up on the oil supply line that runs from the side of the engine to the top of the turbo. Replaced the o-ring at the end of the pipe that enters the side of the engine and that stopped that leak.
I discovered a new oil leak over the weekend. I can’t seem to pin point the exact source of the oil leak. The oil leak is on the passenger side of the engine. The main pooling of oil is happening at the bottom of the oil pan but the origin might be on the side of the engine (passenger side). I don’t believe it’s the turbo return pipe/line which travels from the bottom of the turbo to the side of the engine. There is a grommet at the end of the return line and appears to be clean (no oil). Could the higher RPM’s be causing the oil to be pushed out of the lower turbo return line and I just can’t see the leak when not under load?
There is oil on to the catalytic converter and the passenger side motor mount but I was thinking that this could have been caused by the earlier oil leak.
I’m starting to also wonder if I could have caused the oil leak and damaged an oil line when I raised the engine up to get clearance for the motor mount replacement. Since I had the turbo out, I had easy access to the motor mount so I decided to quickly swap it out. I ended up positioning the jack under the transmission, using a piece of wood between the jack and the tranny, to ease the engine. I had already been told to never jack the engine up using the oil pan on these cars. By the way, I know for sure it’s engine oil and not transmission fluid that is leaking.
I did not disconnect any tranny or engine oil lines while raising the engine, since I didn’t see a need to. I raised the engine just enough to squeeze the motor mount into its position.
Some of the lower lines that run from front to back on the passenger side of the engine are covered with fresh oil, but again, the oil seems to be collecting at the oil pan.
I’m trying to figure this one out and hoping someone has gone thru this before and can quickly identify areas that might be the cause of the oil leak.
Any advise or direction is greatly appreciated.
