Only trust gear oils actually on the “Qualified Product List”, not impostors that claim J2360 but aren’t on the list. There are many good gear oils not on the QPL because of the cost and time involved, but if you’re looking to pinch pennies, the QPL is the only real way to know the gear oil is legit up to hardcore use. The ones that aren’t on QPL need to be based on your belief that the company is trustworthy. There are a few gear oil companies here I’d trust even though they’re not on the QPL.

Does a company have to submit their oil to them for review? I know Amsoil and other companies sometimes do not submit their oils for review but that doesnt mean it wouldnt pass.
 
I will tell you why Im interested. In a previous vehicle I had a really bad problem with the front diff. So now Im looking for a high quality fluid. This may not solve or prevent future problems bur feel better if I tried.
