I noticed lately it’s been a little stiff when I go to put it in the park and sometimes the parking light doesn’t light up when I’m in park
Today the wife said it didn’t start so I told her to put it in neutral and then it started up any ideas what the issue might be?

Anyone dump a drink in the console area?

Maybe the N safety switch disintegrated. Look under the hood first make sure no cats of rodent mess where the cable intersects the trans case. If you see nothing there, remove the console quadrant bezel and cover and have a look.

Also note you should have a N switch over ride hole through the quadrant face.

Pretty basic stuff.

Spray a little WD or PB down along the Range Finder(on the front of the transmission) where the cable connects.
I had to do this with my daughter's 2006 Mazda3i.

Also, if you find that the gear selector(after putting into P doesn't light up in P(which may cause a NO START issue), the range selector is also adjustable as it has oblong holes for the adjustment.

There may be a TSB on this. I think I had to do this on my '08 Mazda 3 many years ago

On the range finder? So im spraying the cable where it connects in front of the transmission under the car?

^^^ YES, you may even be able to get it right from the top however it is difficult to see.
And YES if under the car is the only way to spray it then that's what you have to do.
And work the shifter from inside the car, come back and spray it again.

From under the car, you can actually unclip/disconnect the cable from the Range Finder/Selector and lube the cable.
But it is tight working in that area.
I even have a Range Finder/Selector for that transmission. It fits 2004-13...Not that you need one, I'm just saying.
I had replaced the one in our 2006 thinking it was faulty when it just needed to be adjusted 1/8 turn clockwise.
