My Mazda is running low on anti freeze and according to the owners manual and Advance Auto Parts the only recommended coolant is Mazda OEM. Can I run a 50/50 Advance universal coolant? This will be a stop-gap until I flush the system before winter. Thanks!

It's better to top off with distilled/filtered water than Universal coolant. Your coolant after top off with water may be slightly less than 50% coolant, it will do no harm as long as you will flush/change coolant before winter.

Make sure when you get the coolant you get the proper kind. Yours is green and should take the older 0000-77-501e-02 Mazda coolant. The FL-22 which is not for your car has a green cap on the bottle and is a 55/45 premix.

Well, after reading through a Haynes Manual for '04-'11 Mazda 3, it states that regular Ethlene Glycol w/no borate, silicate was used in '04-'06 and FL-22 was for '07-present.
