I've looked all over (here, yahoo groups, and els where) for some dino maxlife specs. First of all what group is it? and how much moly does it have in it? Someone said it contains group I, but isnt group I not good? Whats in this "robust additive package" I've heard people talk about. any other general info on this oil would be appreciated.

Ive been using maxlife for about 11k miles in my 2002 sonoma with just over 86k miles on it(ACdelco oil filters and fram tough guard air filters). I just ordered a kit from blackstone labs to do a dyson analysis on it. If you're all interested ill post the results when I get them.

Thanks.

You can look it up at this website. Click on North America and drill down to the product data sheet on it. Or click on MSDS, get the CAS numbers, and search the CAS numbers on this site to see what the experts have said it is. Last I looked Maxlife appears to be Group I with about 12-22% PAO. If Group I is not very good oil, you would never know it using Maxlife.

I was asking because someone on a ford fourm said group II (and up) is vastly superior then group I and also contains far less impurities. And that quality modern oils no longer use group I.

In general, the higher the group the better the base oil, but additive package is important too. Maybe with the PAO "additive" it becomes a really great mix.

I have some good UOAs on Maxlife posted here. Yes we would love to see the results. How many miles will you have on the Maxlife when you UOA it? Also tell us if you used SL or SM. From what I can tell, the SM has about 300 ppm moly that the SL didn't.

It is SM and Ill have 3-4k miles for a base reference. It may be a little while though, I only have 420 miles with this oil so far.

I checked out the MSDS for maxlife hopeing to find the additives and didnt get too much info. Where can you go to find what additives are in the oil. Maxlife is supposed to have a "robust" package and id like to see whats in it.

Well, the product data sheet gives a few of them: phosphorus, zinc, calcium, moly. You can search the oil analysis forums to see what new and used Maxlife looks like.

No problem with the wait. Preferably the longer 4000 mile OCI.

I just looked up group I oil and it is supposed to contain lots of impurities and wax. Even with a good additive package, and being produced by a well known company; could a group I oil cause excess build up in a realitively modern engine?

sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to learn a bit.

Thanks

Isn't that info from Valvoline site contradicting?

How can 5w30 Maxlife make SM and gf-4 with 80% gI base oil? Is the MSDS oblolete?

Here are the CAS numbers from the Jan 02 MSDS for 5w30 Maxlife:
ALIPHATIC PETROLEUM DISTILLATES 64742-65-0, 63.0- 73.0 %
SYNTHETIC LUBRICATING OIL 68037-01-4, 12.0- 22.0 %

I could be wrong, but in the past searches of 64742-65-0 indicated Group I.

If you call Valvoline and ask them to send a current MSDS, you likely will get the '02 sheet. So who knows?

Their MSDS's for Synpower show Group III, except for the 20w50 shows PAO. Figure that one out. Old sheets again.

Thanks for the info. According to the MSDS maxlife is mainly a group I base, but Ive herd everything from groupI to group III. Anyways, I just wrote valvoline and asked them directly. Im curious as to what they will say (if anything at all).

Tallpaul, it looks like Ill do an UOA at 3k miles, I just found out I put on a mexican ACdelco oil filter, and form what Ive herd around here they are no good. But Ill find out once I do the analysis.
