Good overall, no complaints but I'm not that picky either.

Being a Amazon Prime member, this same mattress popped up high on recommendations. Do you find it to be firm or plush? I have to laugh at the reviews. One finds it hard as a rock while the next one says it’s way too soft. I don’t pay much attention to them anyway.

I'm probably not the best indicator as I'm far from an expert. It definitely has some give - in other words when sitting on the edge you depress that spot, or it contours to you when you lay down, but I personally don't get lost (like you hear some people say they get sucked in). Feels like I have enough support when sleeping on it and didn't feel hotter than our old (non-memory foam) mattress.

Honestly the reason I ended up with it. We knew we needed a new mattress, I saw a post last year on here regarding mattresses in a box, and started looking around online. After reading tons of reviews I couldn't make heads or tails of what would be the best value for the money or how much better a Tuft & Needle or Casper one would be for the cost. Most of the beds in a box seem to come with some return window that if you aren't fully satisfied you can send it back and I figured what the heck, I'd rather be happy with the cheap one or unhappy and just deal with the hassle of exercising the return, and then move onto a better quality one. Ended up liking it and keeping it.

FWIW - I ordered through their site rather than Amazon. My impression was I might run into some trouble trying to return via Amazon (even though all my experience with problems via Amazon have been positive) in that initial 30 or 100 day return window. If you choose to buy a Zinus, and go through their site versus Prime, search for a coupon code online. I think you can knock an extra 10% or 15% off the price. Might be higher if you wait until Memorial Day. (I have a referral account if you need a 10% off code, but I think you can find better than that - I "referred" my parents after I got mine). My biggest complaint was that we ordered around a holiday and it took a long time to get here, like a week longer than it should have, the first tracking number they gave me never left the warehouse.

I’m getting the impression that a lot of these brands all come out of the same factory. I know that Zinus and Olee Sleep are made by Grantec which is out of So Korea. The factory is in China but the foams are certified which appears to be important here. Stories of outgassing suggest foam from unreliable sources. The newer foams are being made from vegetable oil, mainly palm oil which is plentiful. The few that are made in the USA might be getting materials sourced from overseas so again the distinction is vague. The price is much higher as well.

As you might guess, I’ve been researching including the site recommendations posted earlier. Thanks for those.

Right now I’m leaning towards the Zinus 12” memory foam model.

Did you make sure it has the right "firmness" for you?

I have bought a made in USA from Amazon, but it is too soft (sinking) for me. It seems I need medium firm/firm.

Another think to think about is the warmness/coolness factor (if it keeps or looses heat). for comfort.

I also bought a twin Novaform medium firm from Costco for one of my kids. Sleeps well. off-gassed for about a day.

A lot of mattresses in a box are "universal" in feel or don't offer levels of firmness... they also seem to be tailored to the softer end. I grew up sleeping on very firm inner-spring mattresses.

We tried a Leesa in a local store and I first it felt great. However quickly got that sinking feeling and overly-hugging. We ended up visiting a couple local manufacturers/showrooms. Mattresses made on site and could be tailored to suite. The owners were knowledgeable and very helpful. Initially I was thinking a hybrid (inner-spring with foam topper), but we left with a 100% talalay latex-foam mattress for only a bit more. It had the support of a innerspring (33-36 ILD) but also conforming and supple.

It wasn't cheap, but all in all very satisfied.

We have a Casper. It's made in the USA but I think it's too firm. I think a spring mattress is overall better but we can live with the Casper as I was too lazy to do the return process for the first 100 days. My opinion is to get a mattress store brand for cheaper $$$.
