"If your Motorcraft filter has the orange-colored silicone ADBV, then stick with it. If the ADBV is black nitrile, then switch to NAPA Golds."
Unfortunately, some of the "Gold" filters do have the nitrile black ADBV in them. I don't really know why, but some do.
I know that I have some NG filters for my wife's van and some of them have black, and some orange, in the SAME filter line! I suspect they ran out of the "stock" ADBV and either upgraded or downgraded with what is on hand. It's not uncommon in any industry to "upgrade" with a product replacement temporarily to cover a parts shortage. Most of the NG filters do have the silicon ADBV, but not all of them by product placement. I now open every box and check before I pay.
In the summer, for my "normal" OCI duration, and don't really care about the silicon ADBV. In the winter it certainly seems to be an advantage, or long OCIs as well.
If you read the NG box closely, you'll see an asterisk by the silicon ADBV call out, and it says "where applicable", meaning that not all get them by market placement and design. MOST do, but not all.
