Manual tranny fluid question for unDummy.

Hey unDummy,I have a question. As you know,I just got a new manual transmission installed in my Z. They got it right this time,thank goodness! It shifts flawlessly and smooth as silk!!!!!! Should I keep the current fill in for awhile (it`s a dino 75W80 GL4) while it`s breaking in (do manual transmissions need to break in???????),and then drain it,and re-fill it with the same dino 75W90 GL4 from the Nissan dealer?

Absolutely break it in and dump the fluid in 1k miles.
And, change it every 10-15k after that.

What dealer PN 75w90 GL4(80?) did they have? brand? did you see the fluid?

So you finally got a good rebuild? about time? was it a warranty replacement?

Hey unDummy. Thanks for responding. Yep,I got a brand new Nissan 98+ spec manual transmission,all parts and labor covered under warranty. The fluid they filled it with was Genuine Nissan 75W90 GL4 dino gear oil (whoever makes it is anybody`s guess). Don`t have a part # though. I didn`t see them put it in unfortunately,I just asked them about it when I picked my car up.

If that trannie specs 75w80 GL4 you could also try Redline MTL which is a fine manual transmission lubricant.

Been using the stuff in my 330ci since it had 10k miles, it now has 98k and shifts better than when it was new. Trans shifts smooth as silk.....

You trust your dealer. I wouldn't.
Get the dino GL4 75w90 partnumber.

If you're lucky, they hopefully used the Nissan MTF 75w85 GL4 that Nissan is using to improve shift quality in their manuals. It would be a good choice.

You're also not going to find a 75w90 that isn't at least a synthetic blend. If it was just dino gear oil, it would more then likely be an 80w90 and possibly a GL5 REGARDLESS of the gibberish coming out of their mouths. I would force them to show you a quart or the 'bulk' container they pulled it from.

You`re a sceptic just like me. I`m going to act like I`m wanting to buy some manual transmission fluid and see what they happen to keep in stock and get the part #,etc. I`m like you and never trust bulk oils or fluids. Engine oil-wise,I`ve never in my life paid for an oil change. I`ve been changing my own oil ever since I had my very first car.

I just called then and they said the manual transmission fluid they use is Nissan 75W85 part number 999MPMTF00P Synthetic.

Should I return the 3 quarts of Synchromax and use the Nissan 75W85 instead?

Yep, stick with the 75w85.

Isn't Syncromax an ATF-thin fluid?? Eeek! Don't put that in a transmission calling for gear oil!

The Nissan 75W85 is OK. I just wish 'Kule still had Specialty Formulations up and running.

Is the Coastal 75W90 a syn blend? I dont recall seeing that it was. I just drained the factory manual transmission fluid in my 08 corolla and refilled with the coastal 75/90 and once I get to 15-20K I will put in amsoil 75/90.
I did see a Coastal Semi Synthetic but dont recall if it was 75/90 or not and just decided the extra $2 something wasnt worth it since i will be draining it out again within 6 months.

I'd run a good, synthetic 90wt GL4. Nissan transmissions are notorious for wear, especially when thinner fluids are used. iirc, MTL munched a few Nissan transmissions before the MT-90 came out.
