Manual Steering Column on a Jeep 2.5l 94

I need to replace the manual steering column on my 94 Jeep with over 230k miles. Its a 2.5 AMC engine, the column has been busted for a while now.

Is this something you guys would tackle DIY? So far it looks like I have to remove pitman arms and some other suspension parts. Will have to pick up some pullers next time the snap on guy is around here.

Easy? Moderate? Hard?

Opinions, experiences, and other contributions welcome.

Let me edit this: The steering Gearbox, not the actual thing that connects to the steering wheel.

I just did the PS box in my 02. Was very simple so I'd say that your non PS box would be even easier. If you need the pitman arm puller swing by my shop and grab it.

Excellent, I'll take a look at it wednsday and see if I have the courage to do it. lol

Mine was just 3 mounting bolts. A spline on the input shaft, the pitman arm and 2 lines. I think I had it on the ground in ten minutes.

I replaced the steering gear box on my old '89 Jeep Comanche, and it was pretty easy. Mine was a non-power steering bare bones truck. I bought a pitman arm puller at Autozone for the job. It was harder locating a new steering gear box than it was to replace it. Had to go with a junk yard unit but it worked fine.

One of my neighboors sons works in a 4x4 shop, they're gonna do it for me for the cost of rebuilding the unit on the jeep with a little labor. Comes out to near the same price as a rebuilt unit from Kragen or NAPA. 218.

He owes me for installing 4 ceiling fans in his house.
