I recently did the first oil change in my wife's '09 Mini. I bought a 6-pack of Mann cartridge filters online and I had always thought of Mann as a quality filter for primarily European vehicles but when I compared it to the OEM filter, it certainly does not seem to be nearly as well constructed.

So, since I still have 5 of these Mann filters left should I use them or bite the bullet and get the OEM filters from the dealer?

Who makes the OEM filter for Mini? I thought Mann was one of the oem suppliers...

FYI, I've been using those Mann cartridge filters for a while now and never had a problem. I run them up to 1 year/10k miles, whichever comes first.

Just because it is not zig-zag does not mean it is not quality. What basis do you have to say it isnt as good.

OE for mini I'd assume to be Knecht Mahle.

For the first year or 2 those tweed filters were all I could find to fit my Ecotec. They were made by Perflux. They all said Perflux right on them, the one from the factory, and out of an AC, Hastings, Fram, and maybe a Purolator box.

I cut some apart and measured the area. Later when I found some standard pleated ones, they had about the area.

I would go ahead and use the Mann. The media could be as good or better and just as much of it. Certainly be better for your engine than all the ones with orange cans.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't have much experience with cartridge filters and I was making an assumption on the quality of the Mann filter mainly due to the lack of an endcap. I will go ahead and use the Manns.

I can't tell how the media compare from a picture. I would use the Mann without hesitation. However; any chance these are a Mann knock-off from somewhere?
