Are these any good? They seem to be very low priced on Rock Auto. I would be using them in a Toyota 4 cylinder engine with 5w20 synthetic oil.

They are a huge OEM filter provider. Very good filters. Mann, Mahle, and Hengst are the three big European filter companies. OEM in basically any VW/Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Fiat, etc.

I purchased a Purolator cabin filter for my Mercedes. When I got it, it also had Mann printed on the side. When I compared it to the cabin filter in the car (Mahle or Hengst), it was much thinner and less pleats. With a cabin filter, it is non critical, but with an oil filter, I like to go OE, not OEM which is a misleading term. Since you mention this is for Toyota, then go with a Toyota filter. They are cheap and the quality is very high especially when made in Japan.

Well, I just bought 10 for $29 which I thought was a pretty good price since a Fram is twice that at Walmart. Just wondered why they are so inexpensive. My dealer wants $6 for a toyota filter which is really no better in my opinion. I never run any oil or filter beyond 5000 miles anyway. So, I shop on the cheap.

Hold on there!! Mann has an expensive and upper tier line for some of the Euro vehicle manufacturers. The Mann filters that cost $4-$6 are Purolator Classics (or the differences are imperceptible to the human eye). So a good filter but with shipping I am sure you are better off going to AAP and buying a Classic. Notice I have the ML-1008 on my Civic so I can speak for that model at least.

MANN cartridge oil filters is one of the best, along with Mahle and Hengst they are big European filter companies. OEM in basically many VW/Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Fiat, etc. MANN spin on filters is difference story, the one made in Germany for European cars are excellent, the one made in USA is a clone of Purolator which is good but not as good as other one.

That's because it depends on the application. The Manns for Japanese and American cars (in the $5 range) aren't the same as the Manns for German cars (in the same price range). Construction is completely different. The ones you mentioned, like the ML-1008, are the Purolators. The german ones are very different. Then, for really different, they offer the fleece filters for the German applications at about triple the price.
