MANN ML1010 C&P (OLD FILTER)

Here is a Mann filter ML1010 that is atleast 11 years old.

Per my other post as promised - here is the cut open of the filter.

We often times question if we can use an old filter but don't often use data to make these decisions so I cut this one open. My opinion is that it was still good to use! The rubber parts were still soft/pliable and the media (my biggest concern) was still solid and didn't crumble away when trying to break the pleats.

It’s consistent with the date codes on other Mann ML filters which were made by Purolator.

It's possible they were made in Fayetteville, North Carolina to M+H design specs (including the date code format) in the Purolator factory, but if the base plate (which you mentioned above) is like the one shown on the box (with the 4 horseshoe shaped inlet holes), that base plate design has never been used on Purolator branded filters in the 2015 time frame that I've ever recall seeing.

There's no photo of the base plate ... except for the sketch on the box - I mentioned it in post 9. Plus the holes in the center tube on the sketch isn't what Purolator used back in 2015. Also, there is not photo of the center tube so we don't know if it matches the box sketch or not.

No doubt in my mind, Purolator made, in all likelihood a L25288 by another name. Just using a different date code format for the Mann. What I can see, looks like it was usable, but understand reluctance. I remember back when these (US made) were being posted and some folks less than enthused about them.

When did Purolator do away with the butchers twine around the media? I had CARQUEST filters back in the day that were incognito Purolators. I would think the same goes for this MANN filter, if it were a Purolator incognito.

Those Purolator USA made didn’t catch on too well.
I didn’t know MH started making oil filters in 1941( on the box). Must have been for the German military and domestic market. “Tightly woven fibers”, or less light spots as opposed to less tightly woven, thanks to WCW we have an easy comparison tool. Better, or worse, like an eye exam.

Purolator only used the 'assembly string' on the relatively wider/bigger filters. But, not always. I think from time to time possible to still see it used, but very infrequent now. Maybe ... looks like oval holes like what Toyota uses on the Denso filters. How do you know he doesn't have some other filters parts laying around from other filter dissections. And what does the bypass valve look like, if it has one ... something else missing in the C&P photos. When a C&P is done, helps to have the photos that are missing in this case.
