Man vs Auto - oil consumption

Someone posted a few days ago about how all of their manual transmission cars used more oil than their automatics. Is there anything to this? Do you think you are more likely to consume a bit more oil with manual transmission cars vs automatics of the same engine/brand?

Maybe manual transmission vehicles are revved higher? However, I doubt that it makes a significant difference.

Maybe there is greater engine vacuum created by the abrupt nature of shifting a manual transmission vs an auto transmission. On a less than well sealed engine maybe oil is being sucked into the cc.

i would guess engine vacuum as well. when you let off the gas in an auto the TC unlocks and you get a high idle, where with a manual when you let off and keep the clutch engaged you get a lot of vacuum.

If true, wouldn't it follow that manuals have fewer instances of stuck rings?

Haven't really noticed a difference in any of the autos/manuals I've driven. Oil consumption has been nil on both (until in excess of 150k).

'95 F150 4.9L I6, 5 speed manual, 147,000 miles, uses about half a quart in 5000 miles.

'92 Aerostar 3.0V6, 127,000 miles, auto transmission, uses a quart every 1300 miles.
