man. syn. fluid = smoother and better mpg?

boxgover, i've had many toyota's over the years and was never able to find a off the shelf local solution for the specs. none off the dino's 75-90's or even the mobil 1 was quite as good as the original fluid which wasnt available even at my local dealer which sold and installed 80-90 in there service bay(I bet those were quite stiff in the cold..).
anyway i've used mobil 1 when i couldnt find another source and it does ok but is not even close to what the SF MTL-P which was recommended and this brought back the new feeling and smooth action. Many say that redline is a good fluid also and have had good success. I chose to support SF because of his involment in this site and regard here. look around and use good judgement.
if your car is quite notchy then it maybe cause to have it looked at if under warranty. it would be $$$$.$$ to replace that if it really had a issue and was denied because of fluid color.. if you have not tried it out in the cold then wait till then and good luck..

Redline MTL is great... used it in my 90 suzuki sidekick beater, cured the 2nd gear grind and general terribly hard shifting when chicago area temps got real low this winter, 15 and under.

That's why I went with the recommended synthetic listed in the manual. Until I get a feel for the reliability of this under warranty car I thought it best to stick to the book (manual).

No problem at all with the 5 speed transmission. Although I did the switch after only 5000 km on the vehicle I feel better knowing that any contaminants, break-in debris, and 'stuff' which might be in the factory fluid up till now, is gone. That must be good preventative maintenance right?

Guys, no, the Pennzoil synchromesh and MTL are significantly lighter than the 75W-90 Boxgrover needs for his Vibe.

As for a mileage, don't expect a noticeable improvement. Fluid in the transmission is just one of the many sources of drag on the driveline ... and I can't see a slight difference in the type of one fluid making a measurable difference.

Yes, Boxgrover, more frequent oil changes will usually extend the life of a component ... but too many changes are unnecessary overkill. Hard to say where that line is. Some units are very neglect-tolerant.

I wait until about 10,000 miles before swapping out the fluids in my manual transmissions. Break-in is complete and I got a fair amount of use out of (and experience with) the factory fluid so I can better compare it to the aftermarket ones I try.

Specialty Formulations MTL-P has been the best to date in my Nissan 6-speed calling for 75W-85.

Isn't Castrol Syntorq a 75W-85 ... or do they make a 75W-90 as well?

I only put it what was recommended specifically in the car's manual.

I dont plan to replace this quality fluid another 50000 km.

You are correct Bro Jace but from the manual it is clear

that one can use the GM Part no ...(which is the Syntorq 75W-85) OR any SAE 75W-90.
