I have seen alot of synthetic blends ATF's at the retail stores lately. I have a new Silverado and am thinking of using a synthetic blend atf.

I would use a full synthetic, but I actually enjoy changing fluids and filters. It would drive me nuts knowing that I have year old ATF and filter in my transmission even though I know it's ok. That darn magnet needs to be cleaned every year too!!!

So my questions is, can I make my own synthetic blend atf dexron atf. It would be alot cheaper than using full synthetic, and it wouldn't be such a waste since I change every year. I have seen quaker state synthetic blend Dexron at Wallmart. What ratio would I use to blend my own?? (ie. one quart amsoil to 3 quarts regular atf)??

First of all, most of the blends are not really blends, but Group III dyno oil mixed with Group I petroleum oils. I.E, not really a mix of true synthetics.

I would go with Schaeffer's 204S if I wanted a true blend. (Order from Tim Mills, upper left corner of your screen).

Otherwise, go with Amsoil or Mobil 1 ATF full synthetics.
