Hi I have been a member here for a while but have not posted much. I have learned a great deal of knowledge on BITOG. I especially like the no [censored] tolerated attitude either prove it or shut up. Ok moving on to the point. I have been doing some research on a replacement oil filter for my ducati motorcycle. Yes I know should have posted in the motorcycle forum but I wanted to reach a broader spectrum of members hence the oil filter forum. And the filters are of the same construction whether for auto or bike correct. So after the dust settled on my research. Here is my short list (1) MAHLE (2) MANN (3) BALDWIN (4) WIX All of these filters met my criteria in the order that they came in for a good quality well made filter. But the Mahle seemed to be the overall best choice in terms of a well made filter that would serve my needs and be my new replacement filter. What I would like is to get some feedback from some Mahle users if there are any to reaffirm my choice. I have searched here and came up with very little and what I did find was positive so I feel confident in my decision. Well thanks for reading. Any feedback appreciated.

I have used Mahle/Knecht on my 530i. Their filters appeared very well made and I never had any issues with them, even after 10K miles.

With that said, make sure the filters you're looking at have the exact same specs as your bike calls for. Sometimes the dimensions/threads are the same, but PSI or flow rate will be different.

You are right Mahle's are well thought of here. I have only run one but it looked great afterwards and had a lot of pleats, it was for a minivan though not a motorcycle.

Thanks for the quick replys. Yes QP thats the one thing I'am not sure of have not been able to find any psi or flow rate info. I only had the Mahle website to rely on. Which did not give any specs. But they do have this filter listed as a replacement for my OEM filter. So would it be safe to assume that I can use without worry. I have also sent an E=mail today to Mahle requesting the specs for this specific filter. It is a very obscure filter as it only fits citroens and Ducatis. As such it is not even available in the U.S. europe only. Hopefully I will hear back from Mahle tomorrow. I believe that they might even manufacture the OEM filter for Ducati.

Ducati OEM Filter

It certainly seems to share a lot of Mahle characteristics.

Thanks Wil for the link seems the OEM filter is a bit of an oddball. But in a good way and that was from 1999. I do not find anything wrong with the OEM filter just the price. I paid 21.00 at the local stealership. Thats what lead me to find an alternative filter. I can get 10 Mahle filters delivered to my door from europe for 58.00.
