10000 miles is still pretty new and I think that has something to do with the oil consumption.
I have a new (ish) 320i that took 10000km before it stopped using oil...just as BMW say in the manual, maybe the Hemi is still bedding in a bit?
Having said that BMW's M5 (old and new) are designed to use oil...a lot of oil! I've read a few long term tests on them and the consumption is normally around a litre per 1000km and sometimes more. Although I know they are different manufacturers and motors Im just pointing out that a bit of usage is not uncommon or problematic.

Titan,

Good idea, I'll pass that along. I use a similar method (but without the hill and in 2nd gear) to seat rings on new car and motorcycle engines.

I have owned one Mopar, my mother owned a Mopar and my Dad owned a Mopar. So I have some experince with them. We never had one use any oil after 5000 miles. By no oil consuption I mean that it did not use enough to be observed on the dipstick! My Dad owned a 1970 Dart Swinger with a 340, Mom owned a 4 cylinder Mopar and I owned a 2001 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7V8. SO I have no experince with this current Hemi. What brand of 5W20 is he running in it?

Yep. That's the idea! Like I said, it certainly won't hurt, and it might fix the problem if the problem is a stuck or gunked up ring pack(s).

Both my Jeeps don't need any oil between 8,000km OCI.

My friend takes excellent care of his Magnum and does not abuse it. First OC was at 3K (M1 5W20), next at 8K with PP 5W20. Aside from the oil consumption he loves it.
