Will the installation of a magnefine filter be an issue with a vehicle still under the factory warranty?

Example: My trans goes bad, still under factory warranty, my dealer sees the filter on a line where there never was a OEM filter. The dealer says the magnefine or its installation caused the problem.

Please don't shoot me!

No they cannot deny warranty for installing an aftermarket device, unless of course that device actually caused the failure....such as blocked flow or lousy install/parts caused you to spew precious red fluid all over the road.

The Magnefine has a bypass valve so if it were to fill up it still would not cause a problem. However installing it backwards thus preventing any flow (I believe it has more or less of a one way valve) would spell disaster. The directions say to install the hose to the input side, start the engine and check for flow on the output side, then connect up the output hose.

I know what y'all are saying...but...can't the dealer say you modified the factory system when you install a filter where there wasn't one and then deny the claim regardless of whether the filter caused the problem in the first place?

Don't get me wrong, I am going to install one on my older car and probably my truck so I am not attacking the magnefine at all.

Car Dealers say all kinds of stuff. 99.9% of it is wrong.

But they cannot deny the claim legitimately in the scenario you describe. No doubt the ignorant clouts will try.

This question comes up all the time. IMHO, I would prefer not to give the dealer/factory any reason to deny warranty. If my trans , through no fault of any aftermarket filter or lubricant, fails due to a manufacturing fault, I don't want to spend 18 months walking to work while my representatives fight a multi-national company.

But that is just me ....

Read your warranty statement to see what it says. It is MOST likely that your warranty cannot legally be denied for installation of this product unless it caused the problem. It is also MOST likely that you'll be the one with the big legal bill to get coverage if your dealer decides to claim it caused or contributed to the failure. The contributed part is where the attorney's on both sides get rich and everyone else gets hosed.
