Made the new shocks plunge for the Silverado

Well...... my 2002 Silverado 1500 4wd has 92,000. Shocks have been feeling mushy.
So...... after a lot of research and talking to folks I just put in an
order for a new set of Bilstein 5100's. Can't wait to get them and put them on.
Hoping they are as awesome as everyone says they will be!

I'll post some pics and give a ride report in a few weeks when I have a chance to get them on!

Ok, cool, that is what mine has as well. I will have to look into those as I will be replacing them this spring.

I called and talked with a Tech guy this afternoon. Was wanting to know the main difference between the 4600 and the 5100 series. I am mostly pavement with some off road for hunting. 5100 valving was what I was looking for after he explained it.

I'm planning to spring for Bilstien's too. Mine is a 2wd street truck looking to firm up the ride so probably 4600 series HD shocks.

Oh I will. I'll give an honest review for sure.
I've got a few weeks to take my truck over everything I can
to get a "pre-change" feel.

From what I learned you might want to spend the extra few bucks/shock and get the 5100's if they make them for your 2wd. Might actually be smoother than the 4600's.

I'm not sure the huge difference between going to an Auto Retail store and getting Monroe shocks/etc. or KYB or Bilstein's shocks.
I just put in a ton of research and since this purchase will pry be the last shock purchase I want to make.... and these are lifetime guaranteed..... I just pulled the trigger and got them. I have learned over my 47 years that more often than not you get what you pay for.
Plus, I like the finish on the 5100's too. LOL

I put a set of Monroe Reflex on my 4wd Expedition also with torsion bars up front and they didn't last a year.
Lousy ride and poor feel to them, in less than a year they started leaking.
I went with Bilstein, the difference was like night and day, it rode smooth but well controlled no matter on road or off.

When i sold the truck they were a few years old and still rode and looked like the day i put them on.

You get what you pay for.

Had 60K miles on my 5100's and the shaft sheared from the bottom eyelet. Rough roads here in North Texas. Right now I've got Icon remote resiviors.
