M16A2 Combat Rifle

I consider myself a poor shooter and in saying that,,, I have had the fortune over the years of being able to try at the rifle range Garands. M1as. HK 93, FN fal , Kalashnikovs and Ar15s. The ARs types are by far the easiest to shoot and shoot good. Put some decent sights on a Kalashnikov and that would change peoples opinions on that rifle. As Jeff called them,,, Poodle shooters

Yes that's when the DOD's ideas went from killing the enemy to wounding them. The 9mm reflects the same mentality!
I remember being taught that in Basic.

I stick by the training I always got. 1. Never point a firearm at another unless you intend to shoot them, 2. Never shoot someone unless you intend to kill them. I have never pointed a firearm at another person, so far.

Where specifically and when did you train and qualify at these ranges? I was range instructor at Ft Benning May 68 to Oct 68.
Were you shooting M193 M16s at Benning? No such weapon for us. I went to Benning post VN 67-68. Med Lab and Blood Bank at Martin Army Hospital. Lived on Sandy Hill. I liked Viet Nam Better!

March-April 1966 Ft Polk Louisiana. All targets were green pop up silhouettes that fell when hit to score, not electronically counted but scored by observer. They were only up for a fixed time that varied by distance. If you had a good sense of timing?…a shot at the right time would be scored a “hit” even if a miss as the target fell by it’s “time out” as your round went by.

Hard to see those green silhouettes come up in green Louisiana Springtime!
