I'm wondering if any of you have used this or any other synthetic ATF. Any improvement in shifting? Can you go longer intervals between fluid/filter changes. Does it improve cold weather wear and mileage. I saw the M1 at Crappy Tire yesterday in Newmarket.

Had my truck and the wife's car switched over a month or two ago.I had all the old fluid flushed out and all new M1 put in.My truck,an 03 chevy 4x4,shifts a whole lot better and is smoother on those single digit mornings,a BIG improvement..My wife's Impala had the entire contents changed also, but I had that done cause she is a start it,knock her into drive and zoom away, she can't grasp the easy going when everything is cold.

..She can't say one way or the other if it helped and I haven't been in it enough to tell..As far drain intervals, well I am in need of guidance as I have never changed my ATF in any of my previous vehicle.
Mobil one ATF isworth every red cent in my book.

Sorry pennzoil_guru, don't want to hijack your post, but I need to ask Big John a question.

Big John, where did you have your trans flushed? Did they flush it with M1, or with something else and then drain/refill with M1? The couple of places that I called said that they flush with regular ATF, and that if I wanted M1 I would have to buy enough M1 ATF for both the flush and the fill.

Sorry it took so long,I have been away..A friend did mine at his garage,he flushed with some kind of cleaner, then he pumped in half of total capacity of transmission, reg trans fluid, chnaged the filter, then pumped in the M1.My truck used @18 quarts and the Impala took @16.He usually pumps a little extra through to make sure all the old stuff is out. What he did for me was well above what is normally done, but for your shop to say that you need M1 for the flush and the refill I say NO WAY JOSE!!!!! I would try someone else.Let me know how you make out...

The Mobil 1 ATF performs better at low temperatures (10F and below) than the petroleum oil ATFs for vehicles for which it is suitable. However, it is not compatible with Mercon V, Aisin/Warner 3309, Daimler-Chrysler ATF+4 since it does not contain the required levels of friction modifiers.

The drain intervals can be extended with this fluid but how far depends on the transmission and conditions of use.

Some time back I put Mobil 1 ATF into the auto transm. of my 99 Nissan Sentra. This unit always shifted smoothly. I did feel that the M1 shifted a little better. It seemed to be a solid performer. More recently, at the next change, I put in Schaeffer's ATF. It's performing just as well as far as I can tell. Each of these changes were done well ahead of schedule. I never had any performance problems. This unit is working very smoothly today.

Last week I dropped the pan for the first time. The fluid in there had 92k on it and the filter had about 145k on it. I added 5 quarts of M1 ATF. There are still about 8 quarts of old fluid in there though. Should I find a flush place that'll let me bring 13 or 14 quarts of M1 ATF to use in their machine? BTW, the old stuff didn't smell or look too bad, which is a miracle considering my driving style, and the soft shifts (when hot).

Did you change/clean the filter when you dropped the pan???? A flush with that many miles is bound to loosen some junk and cause more problems..I say let sleeping dog's lie...

I drain and flush the cooler and lines(not the transmission just the lines) since that's where a lot of particles accumulate, then refill and run the car for a while, then redrain. On my car this gets more then 90% of the fluid out.

I thought it was implied that I changed the filter when I dropped the pan. Well anyway, yes, I did change it. I'm going to try getting 100% M1 ATF in there but it may prove not the right fluid for this old 4L60 (700-R4). Maybe I'll end up going to a regular dexron-III. Anything recommended for an old transmission that could use a line pressure boost? I have a Transgo shiftkit that needs to be installed...
