Thanks for the chart.

Interesting that none of Castrol's oil are on the list, and yet they list 4718m certification for their Syntec oil grades. Plus I can't find any specs!

I've got the PDS for Syntec 5w50 that I'll email you, but it really doesn't give out much technical info at all unfortunately.

Castrol is not very good at giving out technical info, with the exception of the European Castrol sites. But I don't think they've even got the same 5w50 over there as we've got here in North America.

Got the file, thanks. Now what do those numbers mean, especially in comparison to Mobil 1 0w40 specs?

As I mentioned, the numbers on that PDS don't tell you too much, especially since it's the old SL version.

The HTHS is listed as 3.7, which is only a little bit more than Mobil 1 0w40, which is 3.6. That's surprising since Syntec 5w50 is quite a bit thicker.

Castrol's cold cranking numbers aren't even an actual number on that PDS, but merely show that they are less than the numbers they list. Once again, Castrol isn't too helpful there.

The flash point of 437F is kinda low for a 50 weight oil. (Redline's 20w50 has a flash point of 491F for instance)

The one good thing is it's got a decent amount of calcium in it, at 0.32%
