Interesting, details lacking in the "news" story. But it broke the Guinness Book of World Records and now has the honor of longest SUV trip on a single charge. Good marketing for sure and also the mileage confirmed. It's unclear what techniques they used but safe to say its standard rating EPA 516 miles is reasonable. Right?

Here is the story.

@alarmguy can I borrow a cool $130K?
They look pretty good in black...
A hospital physician has a two tone black with silver one locally. It looks slick. Still not sure why the wltp shows significantly greater range than the USA certification. I'm guessing that the Lucid has major software and hardware to enable that.

they never do, volkswagen did a similar trip in a golf tdi back in the day, also with tailwind but they chose a flat route. from the french coast to copenhagen

LOL Europe is so schizophrenic with metric and imperial, headline has MPG but the 1st bullet point has to clarify with liters per km

Different test cycle gets different results.

Interesting. They should try the reverse route now and see how far it goes, so we can get an average.

That's what they do for land-speed records like the ones they record at the Utah salt flats. You have to perform a run, and then perform a run on the same course in the opposite direction within a certain amount of time. IIRC your slowest time is the one used for the record.

The EPA cycles relevance has everything to do with how closely one's driving style matches the test cycle, which for this crowds claimed travel isn't very close.

Its an interesting data point as someone in the market for a new rig - the Lucids "potential range" is much like the new Caddy's "potential range" or any other potential -meaningless to me and just about everyone here if they drive like they claim. Every vehicle has in it great potential for range, if driven at 60MPH or less, with no climate and drafting behind semis, but few to none exploit it.

Along with owning miracle vehicles that never need filling before or after a huge road trip this crowd claims 80-90 MPH+ from fill up to empty then if needed a nascar like stop with no bio, meal, or breaks when it comes to trip times. Then in other, or sometimes the same threads the same guys talk about spending hours at different destinations, meal stops, and favorite points of interest.

We saw an Air Sunday while driving down I75 and across the river for a musical in a theater in an old Carnegie Library building in Covington. It was a production of The Color Purple and was very good.
TMI and OT I know.
Anyway, I love the low and wide look of the Air as well as its exclusivity.
Teslas are everywhere now and even the X and S are pretty common.
You could pick up either used and decent for around twenty grand while the cheapest used Air I found was around twice that. Rivians also seem rather expensive used but just look dorky.
OTOH, the Tesla X and S have been around for a while now and while EVs may feature high depreciation, higher end cars in general do as a group.
Anyway, an Air would be a pretty neat ride to have, especially since you don't see them everywhere all the time. The model badge is also pretty cool and the acceleration and range seem pretty attractive.

They are all over the plcae here. I think they are pretty bad looking, except for the black ones...
Here's one of the 1st ones I saw a few years ago, on the way home from Costco on an early Sunday morning. We live at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

I love the Lucid. Price is beyond my means for the model I'd want unfortunately.

it looks like a sedan to me, not SUV? also, dropped over 3000 ft in elevation with generally speaking a tail wind.
They did say it was an Air. The SUV is the Gravity. Not sure why it mentions SUV here. Weird.

It's quite a different experience when it's right in front of you. The Air has presence in person.
I’ve seen one while I was in the Bay Area. I’m not denying it’s an impressive machine, but for $250k it shouldn’t mimic a now-defunct, ~$25k Chrysler IMO.

Make it like a Taycan, or angular and creased like a Ferrari/Lambo. Something that stirs the soul enough to match the car’s performance.

I’d love to toss the Air’s drivetrain in a G8 GXP or Chevy SS… then we’d agree on a majority of points! 👍🏻
