Lucid Air Sapphire

I really like to see such impressive cars. However, the EV world has pushed automotive prices into absurdity. I can't think of a way to afford a Plaid, not to mention this. I can afford an Altima, which will go 650 miles at 90-93mph, and do so with very comfortable seats. Someone here called the Altima a penalty box. I disagree. It's a wonderful long distance car and at $25,000 it's 10% the cost of a Sapphire, it's not only more range-capable on the highway than the Sapphire it's faster on cross country trips. Speed is a luxury all it's own. That's why we fly.

Agree 100%. Our Mid Range RWD Model 3 was a ton of money.
I got a friend a high mileage 2015 Altima S from Hertz years ago. Lotsa more miles with simple routine maintenance. Nice car.

Apparently I'm the only one that doesn't "get it" when it comes to the Lucid Air.

Everyone rants and raves about them, but I just don't understand the appeal.

Me neither. And for $250K? My chump change Model 3 is as "get it" as I get.
There is one running around here; I see it every so often.

I believe the Lucid Air uses the 2170 batteries, just like your Model 3. 6,600 total type 2170 cells. The Model 3 long range (not sure about the performance) is said to have 4416 cells. So for 5x the cost of a model 3, you get 50% more cells, of the very same type. Ummm

I love letting others take a spin our Tesla. Especially when they are afraid to drive it! I tell 'em to give it some throttle and the look on their face is totally worth the price of admission. Double that for AP... Just might be change your underwear time... Fun times for sure.

I couldn't do that with a really expensive car. People would just refuse to drive anyway.
Plus scratches don't hurt as much. Our Model 3 is a far better car then the out-of-this-world Sapphire. For me at least...

The JLR dealership that I take my Jaguar for service is located in a very affluent area. They usually have one of the top end Land Rovers on the showroom floor and they usually have a $25K "market adjustment" added to the sticker price. Which puts the vehicle at around $250K. The salesman tells me they sell every top end model Land Rover and Jaguar that they can get, ICE or EV.

If people will pay $250K for a Land Rover that probably gets less than 15 MPG I'm sure that the Lucid Sapphire EV at the same price will find willing buyers as well. To some people $250K is the same as $50K, Especially if they are leasing it and plan on buying a new (fill in the blank) high end vehicle every couple of years.

To me the appeal of Lucid Airs is the pure range and efficiency. Yes, they’re expensive - but the range can’t be touched. And it’s not just a big battery. They managed to combine a big battery (and the weight associated) with excellent efficiency.

I wonder how far that Sapphire would go at my typical speeds. I'm quite sure it ain't 500+ miles, or 400+ miles. The tests listed above are at relatively unreasonable speeds and under full charge conditions. Something you get to do only once on a trip, unless you wait forever to charge to 100% and run it to zero. Charging from 20 to 80% is the norm, and with that range suffers. With $250,000 EV's going slow is still going faster.

My Altima example stands, as it will cruise fast and nearly twice as far for 1/10th the cost.
