I just found http://www.drainitright.com/

It's supposed to be an OCI calculator from Lubrizol.

It doesn't seem to do the GM OLM'ed car's ("Please consult your owner's manual"), but for the ones that has a published maintenance interval, it seems to take that interval and apply a multiplier to it, if you drive weird conditions.

I think it's kinda interesting, if a bit conservative on the really short OCI end, if you put it on "High" level of protection. On "Standard" it seems to reflect a decent 5k-ish OCI.

Interesting. I put in my vehicles with the mileage they have and their driving conditions and put in the standard level of protection and it showed pretty close to what I am doing now. Actually what I am doing is a little below their standard protection list. So I'm good to go.

Thanks for listing the link.

Pretty pointless excercise but interesting nonetheless!

You put in standard level of protection and it tops out way more than 5K.

I probably shouldn't have put a High level of protection in the images since that probably leads to a misleading view about the calculator.

A "standard" level of protection is good for almost all vehicles. It looks like the "high" level numbers pretty much reflects OCIs for sludgers.

Yeah, my 2005 Odyssey didn't even give mileage. It said 12 months- for both synthetic and conventional. The Maintenance Minder does take about 9months to trigger.

Note that if you change one of the driving conditions - like the stop&go - it'll tell you 9 months.

You're right, it doesn't seem to have any data for BMW's... but it does for the other Germans, like VW or MB.

Here's what I got for the 98.

Recommended Oil Change Interval for Conventional Motor Oil:
4,125 Miles
Recommended Oil Change Interval for Synthetic Motor Oil:
6,188 Miles

I also hate terms like frequently vs. infrequently. What is frequent? We probably average 14 days a year over 90- I wouldn't call that frequently. Probably 1 out of 4 of my trips is pretty stop and go- I wouldn't call that frequently. And why is there not a never answer. I never did stop and go in WV.

Hmm..same for my jeepss

Recommended Oil Change Interval for Conventional Motor Oil:
4,125 Miles
Recommended Oil Change Interval for Synthetic Motor Oil:
6,188 Miles

The OEM is 7000/3000 for normal/severe.

Since Lubrizol works with Amsoil they should have put a plug in there with a 3rd offering:

Recommended Oil Change Interval for ACME-PRIMO Ultimate Synthetic Motor Oil: ONE YEAR

Because the algorithm is rough since it's impossible to give you an exact OCI (that's what OLMs are for), so there's no reason to waste your time on options or questions that doesn't affect the outcome much anyway.

Any published OCI is going to have to err on the side of caution. Only a unit with exact access to your engine data - revs, temperature, compression, trim - can give you exact OCIs.

Kinda neat. For my 07 Accord standard prot. it says 1 year dino or syn. High prot. 7 month dino, 10 month synthetic.

For most my apps, general rec. non severe, synthetic longer than dino and listing in miles.

Thanks for posting.

When I put in a "standard" level of protection, it tells me 5,000 miles with synthetic...when I change the level of protection to "high", it says 4,688 miles. I wasn't aware that the difference between ordinary care and superior care was only 322 miles....

I'm not impressed with this toy.

Infrequently - Recommended Normal Duty per Owners Manual
Frequently - Exactly Half Way Between
Almost Always - Recommended Severe Duty per Owners Manual

Synthetic - Increase Interval 50% or Normal Duty per Owners Manual whichever is less.

Didnt spend much time on that one did they?

Consult your Owner's Manual is code for follow the OLM.

6188 miles for highway regardless for my older cars, but frequent idling or going above 72k miles would reduce dino OCI to 3500.

I think it isn't very informative.
