Hey guys,

There've been lots of good reviews lately on the Lubegard Red ATF supplement. BITOG seems to be getting more comfortable with Lubegard as a company that is adding value to the lubricant industry and is not just another snake oil peddler.

Does anyone have experience with their gear fluid supplement (Lubegard "Yellow")? I am running Amsoil MTF in an older Honda 5 speed and am curious to see if this stuff helps alleviate a small synchro buzz from 3rd to 4th.

Try it. At best it helps and at worst it does nothing, it wont do any harm to the unit.
If you do try it please post back with your thoughts, inquiring minds need to know.

alittle buzz now and then builds character. how old is the honda

1995, 216k. Transmission shifts great, runs great, it just feels like the 4th synchro is getting a tad slow. It's a little worse when the fluid is cold. If I double-clutch then its perfectly quiet.

Interested to hear others' thoughts before I drop $14 on this junk. If I do I will report back, don't worry.

I just dumped a bottle of the Gear Fluid Supplement into and old 87 Subaru that I've been driving and it smoothed out the shifting a bit. I changed out the fluid with Super Tech last year and decided to give the stuff a try when I came across it in an auto parts store. Not a night and day difference, but it is noticeable. Couldn't tell you if it will do anything for your buzzing problem.

I do not see how Lubegard could improve a synthetic or synthetic blend ATF. I am not sold.

I was under the impression that LG somehow had come up with a substitute for Whale Oil,which used to be a major part of A/T fluid until around the 1980s....due to the GreenPeace Organizations and such. This subsitute is supposed to make shifts smoother and things run cooler.I believe thats what LG Red is....

I added LG Yellow to Coastal 80w90 in the '77 F250's manual trans. It definately helped, less grinding/difficulty getting into gears.

I will not chance the blocker rings in the T56 (should I??).

I DID add some to the last rear axle change (before the current LAT change), and it did not quiet down the highway banshee wail of my ring and pinion at all.

Well Amazon prime had this stuff so I picked some up. We'll see if it helps.

Do not believe everything you are told by Lubeguard.

The matter is this. There are a couple of synthesized esters that work better than whale oil being used in ATF's. The other factor besides killing sperm whales for esters is that despite it being inferior to a modern day lubricant there is not enough sperm whales to sustain ATF production.

Why add this stuff to an inferior lube? Why not just buy something stouter and never worry about it again? I swapped out the dealer-used Valvoline GL-5 in my transmission for Motul Gear 300 and don't plan to change it out til maybe 100k, so long as nothing changes as far as shifitng is concerned.

There is a cost difference, but I'd trust an ester (or any other high quality) oil more than a cheap lube + bottle of additive any day.

With that said, I am curious to read more reports. It is true that there are a lot of great reports from ATF Lubegard users, which may indicate something more than placebo affect, right???

I've now been running this additive (LGY = LubeGard Yellow) for a few days and I have some feedback.

95 Civic 5spd, 216k: 4oz LGY + 2qt Amsoil MTF
The MTF was changed a few months ago when I did a clutch job on this car, so it probably had 5-7k miles on it. Drained it out into a clean pan, added LGY, shook it up real good and replaced. Note that LG recommends 3oz per qt so this was a 2/3 dose. While the Amsoil product does a great job in the application, the LGY was noticeable. Shifts are smoother (the only good descriptor is "buttery") and it hesitates less going back into 1st while still moving. The buzz from 3rd to 4th is less pronounced but still there. Oh well, I guess it can't heal synchros

88 4Runner, W56 5spd: 4oz LGY + 3qt Amsoil MTG
The MTG has always been fantastic in this application -- a huge improvement from conventional GL-5. Shift quality is the same no matter the temperature. The current fill had about 10k miles and a couple of years on it. Adding LGY didn't really seem to change anything. However, I used less than 1/2 dose. There was no problem to solve anyway, just curious to see what would happen.

As I get more miles on this stuff I'll post again.

BTW, the 8oz bottle turned up on Amazon Prime for <$10.

Referencing the original post: a buzz occuring when shifting from 3rd to 4th.
