The carbon build-up on these and the GS is disappointing. I am/was seriously contemplating this generation IS, but I don't want to deal with the carbon buildup and the slow 2.5. I really like the 350, but the years I'm looking at are only offered in RWD. Which isn't ideal for NJ. lol


Get snow tires. I know plenty of people in NJ with powerful RWD cars that easily survive with snow tires.

Not to revive a dead thread, but.
The TSB work involves higher tension piston rings for this engine. Since the upgraded rings went in, this no longer occurs, and I've spent some beating on the car to try to make it puke oil into PCV. Nothing. My best guess is that the original design of the rings let so much blowby past that the oil was forced into the vent and the combustion chamber in large amounts.
