This is VERY true for Isuzu's as well - when their alternators start to fail.
Nice thing about a mechanical oil pressure gauge is you rule out all electrical gremlins.
Heck on some engines, 4psi at idle when hot is considered normal. 10 psi is more the norm. 20 psi is on the high side. Find someone with the service manual and look up the specs. Trying to create higher idle oil pressures than is specified in the manual with thicker oils just forces the oil pump into bypass sooner. Do that, and you'll end up with used oil analysis like TallPaul's.
Put a mechanical gauge on this bad boy and see what is going on! It might be the sender or a bad ground int he instrument cluster, a stuck bypass,worn out pump, oil leak etc.........
maybe the cheap fake synthetic oil that is culprit here?
I just had the oil changed a few weeks ago with 10w30 SuperTech Synthetic and a PureOne filter. In a few weeks the oil must have thinned some causing the even lower oil pressure.
too add also the Pure One filters dont have very good volume through the filter manifold, small holes and only a few seem to cause pressure drops on most cars I see them on.

Another update. Afer adding the thick No-Smoke with seal conditioners and driving the car some more the oil pressure is very good and staying stable. Doesn't dip below 20psi at idle and operating psi range is higher too. Next oil change the car gets 10w-40. If nothing else it makes me feel better. Low oil pressure scares me. Don't want to see it . . .
Given your problem, I wonder if you maybe should go with 15w40? If you like Valvoline Durablend it comes in 15w40, but I have not seen that grade too many places. I think Pep Boys had some.

We don't need no stinkin used oil analysis. I just do the used oil analysis to rile the folks at BITOG who shoot for single digit wear metals.
