I just replaced all 4 rotors pads and rear calipers. They were shot. Before I replaced all this stuff I would get thumpin sound sound from the rear when breaking and I get a thump when I step on the brake. It's still doing it even after all this work. What the [censored] could it be? When braking it's a fast...thump thump thump. It's from the right rear wheel. And it's not a thump you would hear from a tire it's more of a knock. I'm about to push this car over a cliff.

Emergency brake? It's down. I rarely use it. How could the emergency brake make that noise?

I made the comment on the emergency brake because if it hangs up in some vehicles it will make mysterious thumps and other noises. It could be "no on" and still be hung up. It was a problem that haunted mechanics on a 4Runner until checking everything it should have been one of the mechanics notices that it had hung up on one side.

Yes...there is resistance but when I pull the E brake it doesn't make that usual kick I hear on other cars. I don't know..it may be normal. As far as it being a bad baring. ..tjethe wheel is dead silent when I'm not on the brake

Check the spare tire under the bed. I had a thumping noise that wouldnt go away on my 05 jeep and it turned out the spare was smacking the body when i touched the brakes. The owner before me used it and didnt crank it all the way up to the body.

I already thought of that. I even drove around with the spare tire out. Heck, I even pulled out the board that covers it and all the hardware. Besides, the knocking sounds is in unison with the wheel turning....only when applying the brake.

Ok..so this knocking from my passenger side wheel has stopped or decreased quite a bit. Is it possible that the knocking was the brake pads not being seaten in and now they are?

Two things i have seen, tires and caliper bracket shims. A customer's cars tires had a separation and would only show itself while under braking. Opon inspection the tires had a buldge. My girlfriends Subaru on the other hand didn't have shims installed from the previous owner and every bump I went over it sounded like the struts were shot.

Well guys, this is what I found out. Guess it took spending 550.00 on brakes to find out what caused my rear calipers to prematurely wear. My car has what are called axle flanges. And in the back both of them were warped/bent thus causing the wheel and all the components attached to it to wobble. It was so slight you couldn’t see it, but I could hear it based on the description I gave you from my initial post. My mechanic said they are made of a very thin steel and could bend pretty easily if you strike a huge pothole. I can tell you that last winter our road appeared like a war zone due to all the thawing and freezing...Looked as if ISIS had mortared the whole darn town. And I recall hitting one that was like going through the grand canyon. I could have bent them last winter. This will cost me 350.00 on top of the 550.00 I already spent on brakes. Gotta love it.
