Loose dipstick tube 2003 Ford E150 5.4L van

When I remove or replace the dipstick, the whole tube moves around a lot and there doesn't appear to be any support securing it, it just goes into the engine.

This is what a new one is supposed to look like,

and it has a tab near the upper end. Did that break off mine and just this piece is left?

If so how hard is the tube to replace considering this is a van and access is probably nil?

I prefer to avoid a ghetto repair like that. If I saw that on a car I was buying, I would pause and think of what else did he cheap out on.

Someone probably broke it doing a repair. It is supposed to be a somewhat press fit into the block and then held by that bracket.

Use a stainless tie (or hose clamp) and position the clasp in the back. Nobody is going to care. It's a 2003 van, will be the last thing on someone's mind.
