Loose Air Filter box cover--possible damage ??

Hi all

Yesterday while peeking under the hood to check fluid levels I noticed that the air box cover on me Acura 3.2CL-S had one screw broken. It is held down with two puny screws on one side and the other side has sort of studs fitting into loops.
Could this cause some dirt ingestion? or damage??

I have that car, and on mine, the cover has a pretty tight friction fit without the screws. I imagine one screw is enough. But still, I wonder what broke. A captured screw broke?

Yes that's exactly what happened it was rusty and I must have overtoqued it and now it spins in there. Some dut could get in there when I press down on that side of cover it gives a bit the other side by the other screw is solid duc tape will help I guess.
Tosh do you have an T/T in it? and if so does it have a bit of a rough upshift from 2 to 3rd? Mine does and Asmoil ATF didn't really help I will go back to Z-1

Dominik,

Look for any TSB's regarding transmission issues with your car. Acura has had some grenading transmission issues on some of their line of cars.

IMO stick with Honda atf. If you have shifting issues with OE fluid you have issues.

I don't know what T/T is (AT?), but no, my 5AT doesn't shift rough. Actually the opposite is the case since they swapped the AT and the ECU in my 2001 CL-S, giving it early upshifts and unresponsive and slow shifts compared with original.

If the screw broke off in the bottom half of the airbox, perhaps you should extract that piece, then drill out the top cover, and use a non-captured screw in that location. Or get an OEM airbox from someone who's using a 'cold air intake.'
