Looking for new Crosstrek

OK, so it looks some dealers will offer a price and when you agree to it and they do the paperwork, they add $2000 for market value adjustment. Its like the other sleazy fees. Not part of the price, but added when they write up the paperwork.

Legally speaking, if you have an agreed upon purchase contract a dealership cannot arbitrarily add anything to it without the customer's consent. Personally I have heard so many things said to this effect, "dealership added X amount of money after the fact" without anyone EVER providing evidence to substantiate their claims that I have to call bull :poop:. If that were the case a dealership can be sued for breach of contract and I never hear about that, only allegations that don't add up.

I'm not calling you a liar but seriously, if someone does that then get the paperwork to substantiate your claims and SUE THEM. Don't just talk :poop: about it on the internet because that doesn't accomplish anything other than contribute to internet toxicity.

I've completely had my fill of Subarus after owning a Legacy, a Crosstrek and then a Forester.

To pay even just under sticker is obscene to me for what you get, but I don't blame the dealerships if people are willing to pay the price.

Paul Miller where I got 3 of my Subaru's has 29 Crosstreks instock. I didn't look at cost not trims. Just a quick search.

Except for the vast majority of those 29, which are marked as being "In transit"...

GF looking at this vehicle too...in April it was 12% off sticker, by Memorial Day it was sticker and the internet sales guy thought things would return to normal by Labor Day...when I last checked around Independence Day (received email about BIG sale) prices were still at full MSRP from one of the lowest priced dealerships across America...

Good luck with your search

Bill

We are just used to paying below MSRP but now with limited supply a dealer instead of selling 15 cars at $1000 profit to keep lights on. Dealer now Needs to sell 5 cars at $3000 profit to stay the same. And remember each car sold meant potential add ons of warranty, financing and insurance. Not everyone bit but enough to keep it healthy. Harder chance across 5 cars instead of 15.

Looking for a new Crosstrek as current one is going to daughter. Inquired about one that fit the must haves. They wanted $2K over MSRP because they thought they could. Bought our current Crosstrek there. But probably not our next.

Is anyone else seeing prices over MSRP?

Not a hybrid. Just a Premium level.
Chip shortage means beggars can't be choosers and dealerships are milking the "Market Value Adjustment" fee/

But, if you have a trade-in, it can offset the lack thereof dealing you have on a new car.

I got a lot more money for my trade-in, to offset the lack of discounts on my HiHy

Its just a painful market to try and buy a car in. The dealers can only sell limited amounts so they gotta make it extra painful so they stay profitable with less. Tons of people are waiting it out and may be waiting a long time.

I wonder how this is effecting the extended warranty and add on business with dealers adding on a $2000 "market adjustment".

Buyers are going to tell them to pound salt on extended warranties, paint sealant, etc.. etc. Well at least they should. :sneaky:

I am doing a lot of leg work by email. And up front I am asking for the dealer price, MSRP and all dealer fees beyond tax & tags.

One dealer had a higher price for non local customers. Another had a registration fee. Not for the DMV charges, that is extra. This was for the dealer doing the work to get the registration. This was on top of the paperwork fee.

I have succeeded in getting a few dealers to reduce the crazy high dealer fees. Others say "non negotiable". To which I say everything in life is negotiable.

I couldn’t deal with that pricing attitude. I would get a cheap used car just to get by at a good price from a private party and wait out the trends. Daughter gets the better car. Depends on much you drive and your comfort zone. I have no problem driving a beater, kind of like it actually, but I do have a very new car right now, and sort of a beater. Cheap but good, like maybe a Camry or something.

Our current Crosstrek has the 2.0 engine. Getting the 2.5 means going from a trim of Premium to Limited or Sport I believe. A lot of extra cost for that engine
Sport trim should be the mid trim option, is there really a big price difference?

You must be very patient with that 2.0 engine. I hate my CR-V's underpowered 2.4L engine, it is dangerously slow when you merge on a highway, I can't imagine naturally aspirated 2.0L AWD vehicle to be honest.

As I have previously said the CVT is perfectly matched to the engine. Really no lack of power if you use the whole gas pedal. Floor it and let it shift on its own near redline. I have had it on the Surekill bypass and the other roads in Phila. Never a problem. Folks that have a problem with this vehicle would have a problem with most cars.

The only Subaru I like is the Forester because of the big sunroof and good visibility that is unheard of in modern cars :sneaky:

But like everyone else said, it's not just Subaru doing this.

So we found one my wife likes. But a document fee of $599 and a Polysteel option for $999. The Polysteel option is pure profit on something that is worth $100 at best. The document fee of $599 is outrageous. It should not take anyone more than an hour to complete the paperwork for the dealer. I am sure most is fill in some blanks on the computer and print it out.

Look for another dealer, one dealer shouldn't deter you from a good brand.

Personally, I can't *wait* to get rid of my MK7 Golf and get a Crosstrek, or maybe a Forester.
My local dealer never sells for above MSRP.

I have both. If you test ride them you will go for the Forester. CVT has (still-I believe) a 100K mile warranty.

Everyone buying a Subaru in this area goes to Grand Subaru in Chicago for the best deal. Of course, they have 0 Crosstreks on hand.... but supposedly have 20+ on the way.
I bought my WRX from Grand back in May, just before the chip shortage started to effect Subaru very much.... At the time, they had something like 20 of each: Crosstreks, Foresters and Outbacks. Now they have just 5 or 6 or 7 of each. Even then, however, they had cut back sales to those further away than 200 miles. Probably to prevent those from far away from making a great deal online and then driving here it pick it up.
