As the title states, looking for some scenic roads to give my car some exercise near the Catskill mountains. Looking for some scenic overlooks. Hoping the locals can help me out. Also any good places to eat in same area

a good number of performance car comercials were filmed
If you want car commercial locations....go up (or down) the Palisades Interstate Parkway. If you've seen "The Seven Ups", you've seen a bit of it.
Go along Rt. 9D for OUTSTANDING still and moving car commercial photo settings.

I87 (Adirondack Northway) north of Rt. 254 -continuing up to Rt. 74- is where, someday, I'll lose my license.

Silly question would you take 911 or SUV. I don’t think ground clearance would be an issue but did have an issue upstate once. I would prefer the 911
Personally, I would choose the vehicle with the largest sunroof assuming you're able to hit the right weather for the trip, enjoying the amazing color palette of the trees in autumn would set my priorities.

To answer your question directly, I think a 911 would be absolutely fine unless you plan on going far off the beaten path.

I think when I was young my Dad took me on 9W there were many Liberty ships in the river I think. This was in the early 70’s. Is this the same place

^^It was called the "Mothball Fleet" when my parents drove us up there when I was a wee lad.

General Pershing's Oldsmobile staff car at West Point could be where "it all" started......that, and an overturned car on 9W. I had never seen a chassis before.

edit: Oh, oh oh. HUGE EDIT HERE. Go north to Altamont, NY and drive atop the Heldeberg Escarpment on a clear day.
You'll think you can see all the way up to Montreal and all the way down to NYC. The little bristles right of center are Albany.
I saw it first in Autumn '19 and have been telling people to go there ever since.

While in Albany, go to Rolf's Pork Store. 70 Lexington Ave., Albany for the finest in smoked meats and German specialties.
(518) 463-0185
They'll smoke your own fish and game too.
